About this condition

The thyroid is a small gland at the front of the neck that sets the pace of the body's metabolism. When it is under- or over-active, people may notice changes in weight, energy, mood, hair, skin or periods, or a swelling at the front of the neck. The only way to know what the gland is doing is a blood test.

How a consultation works

The doctor asks about your symptoms, family history and any thyroid medicine you already take, examines the neck, and will want to see recent thyroid blood tests (TSH, T3, T4) before anything else is discussed. Thyroid conditions need regular monitoring, so the clinic works alongside your physician or endocrinologist rather than in place of them. Never stop or change a prescribed thyroid medicine without the doctor who prescribed it agreeing.
